When appointing a new exams officer, a person specification should be created which provides a profile of the person required to serve as exams officer. It should also provide potential applicants with information about what they will need to demonstrate in their application and interview to show their ability to undertake the role
The following should be included within an exams officer person specification:
- Skills and aptitudes related to the exams officer role
- Knowledge and experience: Consider if you require an experienced exams officer or if you are willing to accept applicants with no previous experience of the exams officer role)
- Competencies and qualities that the successful candidate must be able to demonstrate including at a minimum the ability to safeguard the welfare of children
- Personal qualities including managing a team of invigilators, engaging with a range of stakeholders, dealing with enquiries from staff, students and parents, etc.
It is also important to consider which criteria is essential, and which is desirable, for the position and how these requirements will be tested and assessed during the selection process.
